Training and Workshops

Our motivating goal at CBA is to offer rigorous yet accessible instructional workshops in applied statistics that are explicitly targeted to empirical researchers in the social, behavioral and health sciences. We place an equal balance on core aspects of the underlying statistical models and on the thoughtful application and interpretation of models fitted to real data using a variety of available software packages.

A key component of our instruction is the provision of extensive support materials including detailed and bound course notes, multiple sample data sets, and comprehensive computer code written in a variety of commonly used software packages.

Importantly, because we are not affiliated with any other commercial entity, we make no attempt to encourage the use of any one software package over any other. Instead, our guiding approach is to focus on the methods and techniques that are optimally suited to the specific needs and desires of the individual researcher.

Next Scheduled Workshop

We will be offering two five-day workshops in Chapel Hill in June of 2012. The first is Multilevel Modeling to be held on June 4th to June 8th, 2012; details are available here. The second is Structural Equation Modeling to be held on June 11th to June 15th; details are available here. You can register for either workshop individually, or we offer a discount when registering for both.

Please contact us at cba at cbanalytics dot org or call 919.533.9817 for any further information.

Sample Lecture Materials

We pride ourselves on the provision of high quality and detailed support materials to accompany the workshop lectures. An example of notes for the lecture portion of our Multilevel Modeling workshop is available here, and an example of notes for the software portion is here. This multilevel modeling software example presents detailed computer code in SAS, and an equally detailed version presents equivalent code in SPSS. An example of notes for the lecture portion of our Structural Equation Models workshop is available here, and an example of notes for the software portion is here. This structural equation modeling software example presents detailed computer code in Mplus, and an equally detailed version presents equivalent code in Amos.

Student Reviews

We have been offering statistical workshops for more than a decade, and we are honored to have received strong and enthusiastic feedback from participants in our courses. Examples of student reviews in their own handwriting taken from our MLM and SEM workshops offered in 2010 are available here.
